Nail Polish Collection: Revlon [January 2013]

Hey guys! This is my Revlon nail polish collection. Revlon was the first brand I started seriously "collecting" when I started to get into nail polish. Whilst I threw out most of my older polishes back before I knew you could easily revive polishes, I have been accumulating Revlon for years and is one of my favourite chemist (drugstore) brands. In Australia, Revlon polishes run for RRP $13.99 or $14.99 (can't remember which) but I got most of these on sales at around $8 - $10.

NOTE: I have to mention that I took all my photos in a crudely made lightbox. Well, I don't think you could call it a lightbox...it's two planks of white painted wood and a lamp with a daylight globe! So whilst I tried to get these as colour accurate as I could, some colours may be just a tad off. I'll try to let you know when that happens, otherwise just google image the colour you were looking at. Also, I took these photos freehand so I'm sorry that some are a little crooked..I hope it doesn't bother you as much as it bothered me!

Onto the collection!

Revlon - Iced Mauve

This may be an oldie, but it's definitely a goodie. Iced Mauve is my idea of a palette cleanser because it's not a "hey, look at me!" colour, but it's still a colour. Some may call this granny-ish, but I don't mind because I love it anyway. It painted on smoothly in 2 coats (no top coat), and I especially like the subtle silver shimmers/sheen.

Revlon - Jaded Night

Whew, what a hiatus! I have a million excuses/reasons, but the key reasons are that I changed jobs to a no nail polish (even "work friendly" shades) job so I haven't been able to NOTD like usual, and secondly, my cuticles/skin were a nightmare during winter so now that it's spring, I hope to get back into photographing my nails, even if it is only on weekends.

Onto the swatches! Jaded night is a lovely forest green, application was sweet n' easy with 2 thin coats topped with Revlon's quick dry top coat. Quite a difference in colour from sunlight to shade, but I equally love both colours (though not my fingers in the shade, red much?!). For me, it's a good all-year-rounder. I currently have Essie's Going Incognito making its way to my door, so I'm interested to see how similar these are.

Revlon - Autumn Berry

This colour has been out for years, but I always gave this polish a one second glance and move on, and I'm not sure why. This deep berry-red has a beautiful gold shimmer, and applied opaquely in two thin coats and was super shiny (no top coat used in these photos). Unfortunately there was no sun shining when I went outside to snap these pictures, but the first two photos are colour accurate.

Revlon - Popular

Yum. Yum, yum, yum. I wasn't expecting to love this colour, but I did. It took 3 coats for opacity, but layered over a light mauve/pink colour or a beige/nude, it would look amazing in one coat (I assume).

Just a note: My nails have been in really bad shape lately and I managed to break 7 nails in 2 days and now I can't bare to look at my fingers :( What I may do is buy some falsies, or I may just wait until they are a little longer and just swatch a bunch in one day of what I've worn this/last week. Sorry if this is a pain for you, it is a pain for me too! PS - I've started using Essie's Millionails and it seems to be helping, so if you suffer from weak, brittle nails, maybe give it a try :)

Revlon - Scandalous

This is a polish I've been eagerly awaiting since it hit (mainly US) nail blogs quite a few months ago. Pink glitter in a dark purple jelly base, it went on opaquely for me in 2 coats. It would be so much nicer with a top coat (I forgot one and you can notice the "roughness" if you enlarge the images), but I loved it all the same that I wore this for 2 days! Haha. Anyway, enjoy the prettiness :)

Revlon - Tangerine

This came out in a spring or summer collection last year, and I thought it was so different to my usual oranges (which are really just corals) that I would instantly love it. Um...wrong. This may work for a select few, but I think this colour will be unflattering on a lot of different skin types. I literally cringed when I would see my nails in my peripheral! 2 coats, no top coat.

Revlon - Raspberry Rush

I don't really wear reds very much so I thought it would be nice to whip one out again. This is on the pinker side of red and I absolutely love it. This was limited edition, but Revlon's Cherries In the Snow is very, very similar (maybe a touch more pink and a touch deeper if I'm being picky!). 2 coats, no top coat.

Revlon - Peach Smoothie

When this first came out, I wore it straight for weeks (I was also an avid nail biter back then and it was a perfect there-but-not-there polish). It takes about 2 coats for opacity and it paints on smooth if you're not completely distracted (middle finger - oops!).

Revlon - Girly

I had internet connection issues yesterday so this is yesterday's mani - a lilac metallic.  It was a little thick for my liking (plus it dried super slowly) but it was pretty so I dealt with it.

Revlon - Fierce

This looks so lovely in the bottle, so I was disappointed when I couldn't get that silver flash that the other polishes in this collection have. I just missed the sun when I was taking these photos, so they're all taken in cloudy lighting, but even in the direct sunlight, the polish didn't change from this colour, it just got sparklier/shinier.

Whilst I'm not really a chunky glitter wearer, I decided to put one coat of OPI's Servin' Up Sparkle on regardless, and I must say I prefer this combo to wearing Fierce alone.

Revlon - Plum Seduction

Revlon's Plum Seduction is pretty, bright pinky plum, and one of Revlon's most popular nail polishes. This is 2 coats, and I don't think I did a top coat with this one.

Revlon - Creme Brulee

I have been so busy for the last 3 days so I haven't been able to post daily :( I have, however, continued to photograph my nails so I'll be posting them all today. Creme Brûlée has been talked about so much on both youtube and nail blogs that I was really excited to try it out. It looks so pretty in the bottle - tan with gold shimmer. On my nails, however, it was streaky and I'm not really sure it matched my skin tone well. This was 2 coats with Revlon's quick dry top coat.

Revlon - Midnight Haze

Sometimes in summer you just need to wear a nice, darker polish. This gunmetal polish was my pick because it has a nice blue sheen that stops it from being too dark. I did 2 coats, but I probably should have done 3 since there are thin spots on a few fingernails.

Revlon - Punk

Another slow drier from Revlon, but I don't mind because I love how this colour turned out on my nails, especially the colour it turns in the shade! :) 2 coats.

Revlon - Aloof

Aloof is a very light gray with silver shimmer. It took 2 coats, but thankfully it was a little faster drying than the other colours I've tried from this collection.
